This beautiful bottle from the group five Railroad Flask named GV-4 is a vintage reproduction of the original "Success To The Railroad" done in the 1830's. The physical features of the “lightly rough” pontil mark, “more slender horse” and “lighter, finer lettering”.
“Success to the Railroad” Locomotive flask features an embossed, very early, crude steam locomotive on tracks on both sides within oval panels. Embossed copy reading, ‘SUCCESS TO THE RAILROAD’ is placed in a horseshoe configuration surrounding the locomotive. A horseshoe rib surrounds both the inscription and locomotive. The reverse of the flask is the same.
**During the throes of the Industrial Revolution, there were horses pulling carts on rails as the Baltimore & Ohio
Railroad
ran on horsepower. Eventually, steam would win over and transportation would be changed forever. The
railroad
or
railway
, both the
horse
-and-cart type and the steam locomotive, inspired many early American
flask
designs.
